I was just chatting a bit with Alex and it's probably best to start these discussions now rather than when my turn comes up.
I'll likely be running the game a little different than we have been. I'll be running them more in the style that I'm used to where sometimes rules and mechanics don't apply as written depending on the situation and some die rolls occur behind the GM screen.
I normally roll all DM combat dice behind the screen to give me the leeway of the DM fudge factor. That allows me to better adjust encounters on the fly and keep either side from wasting the other too easily. It's not an excuse for all out cheating though :) It's not me against the party. It's about the story and maintaining tension and excitement. No one is a fan of TPK and no one is a fan of steamrolling every encounter.
I'm sure there are more nuances that will come up but…. discuss.
