We've been playing this campaign for a very long time now, and our characters are epic levels or getting there. I've enjoyed myself a lot, but I also find myself looking forward to exploring another world more and more.
I want to poll opinions on starting a new campaign sometime soon (like maybe after the current character-focused adventures). I'm ready to start it anytime now, but I'll abide with consensus.
The main reason I'm excited is the Pathfinder world, Golarion, and the adventure paths. Paizo is a company that used to contract for D&D's Wizards of the Coast (Paizo used to write/publish Dungeon and Dragon magazine back when they were physical magazines). WotC ended the contract w/Paizo and put the magazines into their site as 'e-magazines' in order to justify their new (at the time) subscription cost for their website. I've realized the reason I feel that most WotC adventures have felt lame to me is because the best writers were Paizo people, and still are. WotC adventure writers suck. The guys at Paizo, after they lost the WotC magazine contracts, created their own thing, Pathfinder, which is a series of "Adventure Paths" or campaigns that take a party of characters from level 1 to top levels. There are 14 full length adventure paths (campaigns) to choose from now, and I've acquired and begun learning the highest rated one, "Rise of the Runelords" - in case the consensus here is for us to go ahead and play that next.
I'd thought we might try 5th edition next, but the reviews for it are bad, and the real problem is the crop of writers WotC uses to put out adventures. In 5th edition, it will be the same. I personally don't care a lot about rulesets, I'd be happy playing Pathfinder, 4th ed, 5th ed, whatever, and I don't really care about playing high, medium, or low level, each has its ups and downs. What makes me invested is the world depth and good storyline the party is advancing through.
If most of you are in favor of starting Pathfinder / Rise of the Runelords after the current adventure set, we'd start at level 1. No purchases necessary, the rules are similar to what we play with and are all online here:
